AboutEnergy Penguin is the brain child of Gene Troy and Susan Conbere, who turned to home performance consulting after their own home was audited. Five pallets of cellulose insulation later, Energy Penguin was hatched. Gene Troy (President) is a mechanical engineer with a specialty in building efficiency. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in Maryland and Virginia, Certified Building Analyst, Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Consultant and Contractor, Certified Insulation Contractor, and Certified Energy Manager. Gene has worked as a refrigeration and energy engineer for Giant Food, a technical consultant for ENERGY STAR on behalf of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, a project manager for an energy services company, and the technical director of a trade association for industrial refrigeration. He has been a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) since 1989. Susan Conbere (Marketing Director) is a writer on green building issues. She has written and edited dozens of articles for trade and consumer magazines on common-sense energy upgrades and cutting-edge green technologies on behalf of the Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing (PATH). She is a featured author on the Washington metropolitan area’s green building Web site, www.greenzag.com. She has also written extensively about energy efficiency for ENERGY STAR and the Weatherization Assistance Program on behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy. And what’s up with the penguin?
